  Competency-Based Learning Model

  At Phoenix, we don't have grade levels. Our students progress by demonstrating mastery of skills and content, not by completing worksheets. Our self-paced classrooms allow students to accelerate their progress and receive additional support when they need it, creating a more personalized and empowering learning experience.

  Classrooms for All Learners

  Phoenix classrooms bring together students with diverse strengths, experiences, and learning needs. Through co-teaching and differentiated instruction, all students—including English Language Learners and students with disabilities—learn alongside one another in rigorous, supportive, and inclusive environments.

  Next Generation Literacy Program

  Many Phoenix students arrive needing additional support in reading. Grounded in the Science of Reading, our literacy approach combines individualized instruction with adaptive learning tools to help students strengthen critical reading skills, increase their confidence, and accelerate their academic growth.

  Post-Secondary Planning

  At Phoenix, graduation is just the beginning. Students work closely with our post-secondary team to create personalized plans aligned with their goals, strengths, and interests, whether that means college or career training. Through hands-on learning and exposure to a wide range of opportunities, students explore potential pathways as they lay the foundation for the life they want to pursue.

  Early College & Career Training

  Before graduating, every Phoenix student completes multiple college or career training courses. Depending on their post-secondary plans, some may complete internships, while others will receive industry certifications or even an Associate's Degree before graduating high school. No matter their path, every Phoenix graduate leaves with real experience, skills, and momentum for what comes next.

  Restorative Justice Practices

  Rooted in practices used by Indigenous communities around the world, restorative justice is deeply embedded in the fabric of our schools. At Phoenix, these practices are part of a multi-tiered support system that includes community building, problem-solving, and student reintegration following serious harm. Students and staff regularly participate in restorative circles that foster empathy, understanding, and accountability–helping create a more just world.

  Primary Person Model

  Each Phoenix student is matched with a Primary Person, a dedicated and caring adult from our Student Support Team (SST). These trusted mentors serve as student champions, helping young people feel seen, supported, and valued. Trained in trauma-informed care, SST members guide students through personal and academic challenges while connecting their well-being with academic progress.

  Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

  In addition to academic skills, Phoenix prioritizes Social-Emotional Learning. Often called "essential skills," SEL competencies help students navigate relationships, make informed decisions, and address challenges, providing a stepping stone to manage life circumstances in college, career, and beyond. At Phoenix, students practice and develop these skills in their core classes, advisory groups, hallways, and everywhere in between.

  Flexible Scheduling

  Phoenix schools understand the complexities of our students' lives as they balance work, family responsibilities, and their educational goals. By providing flexible schedules, we help students persist through challenging life circumstances without needing to interrupt their education. It's one more way we adapt our model to meet students where they are.

  On-Site Daycare

  Each Phoenix school includes a Little Scholars Center, providing child care and support for parenting students. This "community within a community" gives young parents the peace of mind to focus on their education while balancing their most important responsibility: raising their children.
