Emily Dixon

Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Ms. Dixon began her teaching career as a 2007 Teach for American corps member. She taught 6th grade self-contained English as a Second Language at PS 95 in the North Bronx for two years. She developed a NYSESLAT after-school program to help better prepare English language learners for state exams. Additionally, she created and implemented the 6th grade science curriculum. From 2009-2012, Ms. Dixon taught ELA, ESL, Humanities, Health and Reading in the South Bronx to different sections of beginner, intermediate and advanced English language learners. She generated the ELA and Humanities curriculum for the 6th grade aligning it with the new common core state standards. Furthermore, she taught an after-school Latin program as an interdisciplinary bridge for English language development and social studies. During 2012-2014, Ms. Dixon joined KIPP Star Elementary as their first ESL teacher and instructed students in Kindergarten and first grade. She was also a founding teacher at KIPP Washington Heights Middle School where she instructed 5th and 6th grade ESL students in Reading, Writing, Non-fiction and literacy intervention. She also created, implemented, and assessed a school-wide differentiated vocabulary class based on reading levels for both grades. She created the ESL program for KIPP NYC. Last year she joined the Phoenix network as Chelsea’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction,

Ms. Dixon received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and her Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Pace University. In her free time, Ms. Dixon loves to travel and try new adventures. She has sailed around the world and visited over 30 countries! She enjoys cooking, playing sports, and watching live theater.
