At Phoenix, we believe that to transform every student into a high-achieving scholar, we need to first provide them with a framework of scholarly habits.
The acronym SCHOLAR, which stands for Service, Community, Hope, Opportunity, Leadership, Achievement, and Respect, is the basis for school culture and the connection between long term student goals and the daily actions that bring them closer to achieving them.
Once they’ve been given the proper support to build these scholarly habits, we know they can excel academically. This means we bombard them with calls, texts, and home visits to make sure they are coming to school, completing their homework, and making healthy decisions outside of school. It means we set up counseling and meetings with our social workers and student support team to help with any issues outside of school. It means our students have stronger relationships with staff members, which in turn helps them develop the confidence they need to shine in the classroom.
