Phoenix schools are free, open-enrollment, college preparatory public high schools in Massachusetts. There are currently three operating academies, two public, charter schools in Chelsea and Springfield and a public, district school in Lawrence, serving over 500 students across Massachusetts.
Phoenix Charter Academy Chelsea opened its doors in 2006 to 75 students and has grown to serve 200 students today. It has subsequently served as the model for other Phoenix schools. Phoenix Academy Lawrence, a public high school commissioned by Lawrence Public Schools under Jeff Riley’s turn-around plan for the district school system opened in 2012 and graduated its first class of scholars in 2012. While it is not a charter school, Phoenix Lawrence is proud to uphold the same mission, same academy model, and same standard for hiring outstanding educators as Phoenix Chelsea. After years of community building Phoenix Charter Academy Springfield opened in 2014 and will be graduating its first class this June.
